- Engin Geçtan wrote four books between 1975-1990, which were met with interest by non-professional readers in psychiatry, which was his field of expertise. Existence and Psychiatry is the last of these four that have become classics today. At the same time, this book also shows that the author focuses on writing studies, which he started with purely academic interest, and places people and human states. Since it also includes the intellectual transformations that Geçtan has gone through throughout his professional life, which is now over forty years, it can also be considered an experiential-intellectual autobiography in a sense. Existence and Psychiatry. In the first part of the book, the field of study and the personal approach to this field are introduced, while on the other hand, people are described as a process; but this is a person living in an ongoing culture. In the second part, consisting of articles titled Insensitivity, Narcissism, Life and Death, a series of basic existential questions that the author shares with many people in his clinical studies are discussed.
